Welcome at the Portable Freeware section
This section of my site presents MY selection of PORTABLE freeware for Windows™ on the net.
It is NOT intending to be or to become a complete list of all possible PORTABLE freeware available!
Freeware or Open source, NO shareware, demos or trials, and focused on WINXP and VISTA!
I'm not hosting software on my website. I offer you the links to the homepages of the authors or mirror sites where you can find and download it from.
This way you're always directed to the latest available versions.
Why should you consider using portable software?
This kind of software needs no installation!
So, first of all; you can take them along with you (at work, vacation,...) en
use the software that you're used to, where ever you go.
Secondly; it can be a good idea prefering portable software on your computer system
over software that needs installation.
If Windows crashes, and needs to be re-installed, or if You change to another version
of Windows, portable software continues to work no matter. You dont have to re-install
Your portable software.
Definition of portable software?
My definition of portable software?
Freeware for Windows™ that can be extracted to any folder and run independently without
the need for installation. The portable freeware listed here, can be carried around on a memory
stick/USB drive, even on a CD/CDRW or DVD sometimes, or can be copied/migrated from PC to PC
via simple copying of files.
Some freeware is portable right out of the box. It can be downloaded in the form of an
archive, extracted and can be run from any folder.
For other freeware You need to follow some extra instructions.
Those instructions are included in the freeware list.
Settings should preferrably be stored in the same folder as the application.
I try to avoid it, but sometimes a portable freeware listed here, writes settings to the
windows registry. In case it does, rest assured it's all harmless!
Some applications need admin rights to work! This can be a problem on host computers
where the security is set very tight.
